A curated list of strong job description templates that are inspirational enough to make a candidate want to work for you.
Hyde Park Venture Partners is an early stage venture capital firm focused on high-growth technology startups in the Midwest and Toronto. Based in Chicago — with extensive on-the-ground activity throughout the region — we partner with incredible founding teams with expertise in their industry and early signs of growth. Our sweet spot is to invest in seed and early Series A software startups across B2B, marketplace, and consumer service business models.
We take pride as a team in being tenacious, responsive, and impactful to all of our stakeholders: entrepreneurs, co-investors, and limited partners alike. Among others, our portfolio includes top mid-continent startups FourKites, G2, Shipbob and Terminus.
We are hiring two early-career investment team members in Chicago, and are flexible across levels of experience from Analyst (less than 3 years’ prior relevant experience) to Associate (3–6 years prior relevant experience).
-2–6 years of experience as a tech entrepreneur, member of a fast growing startup, venture investor, finance (banking, PE, etc) analyst or consultant
-Existing residency or deep ties to Chicago or other cities in the Midwest
-A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a rigorous program with a high level of academic performance
Deal sourcing: HPVP’s analyst and associate roles are responsible for planning and execution of our firm-wide deal sourcing function. This includes methodical/quantitative sourcing methods using commercial and bespoke software as well as networking-based sourcing on the ground throughout our geographies.
Due diligence: Work closely with senior investors to plan and execute due diligence research, market analysis and interviews.
Brand building: Represent the firm well at sourcing events and in entrepreneur meetings; have positive impact on the entrepreneurs we meet with — even when we don’t invest. Investment professionals are also encouraged to blog or otherwise develop thought leadership in the community.
Analysis and reporting: Conduct portfolio and market analysis to optimize the partnership’s new and follow-on investment decisions and help prepare the fund for conversations with new and existing limited partners.
Over time, the successful team member will have the opportunity to develop their own investment theses, run a deal from sourcing to close and work with companies at the board level. Both roles will report to senior investment professionals.
We respect and celebrate entrepreneurs and their ideas. We are responsive and tenacious, and we do what we say. We communicate openly and honestly about fact and emotion. We make data driven decisions. We believe that rewards should accrue to those who create value. These are our values, and we take them seriously.
For the entry-level investor, this means being quick and tenacious, honest, direct… but respectful, self-managed and able to prioritize without too much deference for authority. This is venture, so entry-level investors must also be comfortable with ambiguity, risk taking and failure… and learn from each, so we can do it better next time.
We are committed to helping grow a diverse and equitable tech community in Chicago and the Midwest. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
We have a fully vaccinated team that has returned to our office full time in downtown Chicago, and will expect our new team members to join us. We will begin traveling to meet entrepreneurs in person across our geography shortly and anticipate you will as well.
